HOW TO TAKE PART

Follow these steps:

  • In October 22, register for free by selecting "Register" in the upper right hand corner.
  • Create or join a team to participate in the challenge. Be a team of one or ten! Teams earn points and appear on the leader board.
  • Log your miles between November 1 and November 30.

TEAM SIZES

Your team can have anywhere from one to ten team members. When you create or join a team, you'll be able to see your ranking and earn points.

Larger teams have a better chance of earning more points and climbing the ranks. Recruit your teammates early, set goals for them to reach, praise them when they accomplish those goals, and check in on them if they need help.

PREPARING YOUR TEAM FOR RAIN

  • Have a (socially distanced) rain gear patching party. Pool your resources to buy patching tape, sprays and rinses to restore your raincoat's ability to shed water, etc.
  • Encourage your teammates to become a Cascade Bicycle Club member and enjoy discounts on goods from Showers Pass, Po Campo, Rapha Seattle, Swift Industries, and more for all your rain gear needs.
  • Have a (socially distanced) team meeting and share tips and tricks for cycling in the rain.
  • Keep it interesting. Pick a type of destination each week, play your favorite bike bingo card, and offer your team small prizes for meeting goals!
  • Keep it simple. Find a route from Cascade that's in your county and throw it into the mix.
  • Need some community support? Cascade Bicycle Club members can join the member Facebook group and start a discussion.

EARNING POINTS

Only bicycle and scooter rides count towards points. (You might see your other modes sync to the Calendar, but these won't count in the Challenge)

  • Your first ride each day earns you a bonus 10 points, plus mileage.
  • One mile equals one point.
  • You can earn triple points per mile when you participate in one of the following:
    • Volunteering for your local food bank by bike. This includes riding to collect donations, riding to drop off donations, delivering from food banks to community members, or rescuing food from farmers markets or participating grocery stores to delivery to food banks. You can find your local food bank here.

New in 2020, you'll be able to earn extra points when you participate in select community-oriented events on bike. Stay tuned for details!

What does all that mean? It means that frequent riding, no matter the weather, will get your team ahead.

Earning points helps your team climb the leader board and earn badges.

Account Management


How do I participate?

  1. Click “Register” in the top right corner.
  2. If your company is participating and there is no strict spam filter, use your corporate email address
  3. Fill out the registration survey.
  4. Join a team. You must create or join a team, even if you are the sole team member, in order to earn points in the Challenge and climb the leader board.
  5. Manually log rides on your profile, or sync with your Strava, Fitbit, Garmin, or Under Armour app.
How do I change my password?
  1. Click on your profile image in the top bar.
  2. Select “Edit my personal info” from the dropdown menu.
  3. From the left side bar, select “Account”.
  4. Select “Change password”.
I forgot my password. How do I reset my password?
  1. Select the “Log In” button in the top right corner.
  2. Enter the email address that you used to register.
  3. Hit “Send Email”.
  4. Check your mailbox and follow the instructions provided.
How do I delete my profile?
  1. Click on your profile image in the top bar.
  2. Select “Edit my personal info” from the dropdown menu.
  3. From the left side bar, select “Account”.
  4. Select “Delete account”.
How do I add a picture to my profile?
  1. Click on your profile image in the top bar.
  2. Select “Edit my personal info” from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select the placeholder image.
  4. Select the “Gallery” icon and select your image.
Profile images must:
  • Clearly show your face
  • No sunglasses
  • No more than one face
  • No objects or animals

Apps & Syncing

How do I sync with an app? You can sync your profile with Strava, Fitbit, Garmin, or Under Armour apps. Just:
  1. Select “Profile” on the left hand navigation column.
  2. Select “Connect Apps”.
  3. Select the app you wish to sync with.

You can also use the mobile apps from RideShark, available on Android.

I just recorded a ride with synced app, but I'm not seeing updates to my stats. What's up?

The Ride in the Rain app will sync overnight. If it’s been 24 hours and your ride still has not synced, you have the following options:

  1. Log the ride manually.
  2. Check for outages with Strava, Garmin, Under Armour,
  3. Send us an email for support.

Do indoor and virtual rides count?

Not for the Ride in the Rain Challenge. We did allow this for the Bike Everywhere Challenge due to the pandemic, but, well, the nature of the Ride in the Rain Challenge includes the element of the elements. 

Team Management

How do I create a team for the challenge?
  1. From your dashboard, select the Challenges icon (the trophy).
  2. Under "Current", select the desired.
  3. Select "Join or Create Team".
How do I invite people to the team?

For individual participants:

  1. From your dashboard, select the Challenges icon (the trophy).
  2. Under "Current", select the desired Challenge.
  3. Select the "Invite Participant" button.
  4. Enter name, email address, and send them a message.
For larger batches of participants:
  1. From your dashboard, select the "Refer a Friend" icon (the three connected dots).
  2. Copy your referal code and share via email, text, or direct message.
How can I find a team and join?
  1. From your dashboard, select the Challenges icon (the trophy).
  2. Under "Current", select the desired Challenge.
  3. Select "Join or Create Team".
  4. Search for the team name
  5. Select "Join".
Can I remove people from the team?

Yes. Team Captains can remove participants from the team. This is not permanent, so you may re-invite them.

  1. As a Team Captain, from your dashboard, select "Challenges" in the sidebar.
  2. Select the desired Challenge.
  3. Select your team.
  4. In the upper right hand corner of the window, select the menu (three stacked dots).
  5. Select "Delete Team Member(s)".
  6. Check the boxes of the team members you wish to remove and press "Delete Member(s)".

As a Team Leader/Team Captain, how can I assign someone else to the role?

  1. Navigate to the list of participants
  2. Select the desired team member.
  3. Click on the menu of their profile (three dots).
  4. Select "Change Team Leader" and confirm.

Logging Trips

How do I log a trip on the Commute Calendar?

Manually:

  1. Select one of the round icons from "Travel Mode" on the left side of the screen.
  2. Drag and drop the icon onto the desired day.
  3. Set the trip purpose, origin, destination, return trip, and times.
  4. Save the trip.

Sync with app:

You can also sync your trips with Strava, Garmin, Fitbit, and Under Armour.

How do I save a trip that I make repeatedly? I don't want to manually enter it every time!


Follow these instructions, keeping in mind that it will apply to all trips logged on that calendar date.

  1. Manually log your trip as above, on a date without any other trips.
  2. Press the "Save Day" (floppy disc icon) in the upper right hand corner of the calendar date.
  3. Give the trip a unique name (Ex.: Eastern 25 mile loop).

Washington is the #1 most bike friendly state in the country! That doesn’t mean that every road is right for you - you can identify corridors with dedicated facilities using Google Maps' bicycle route feature. SDOT has made 20 miles of Stay Healthy Streets available to keep people moving safely and at a distance through neighborhoods.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) provides a central hub of local and regional maps of bicycle trails and routes.

Consider what's right out your front door. Often small residential streets offer low traffic speeds and limited motor vehicle traffic, making them great places to get in a short ride or to use as connections to get to a nearby destination. They're not always direct, but that's perfect - you'll have the roads to yourself!
